What is Modern Day Minority?
To start the year, I felt this blog post was long overdue. As always, hit me up on Instagram here.
At it’s core, Modern Day Minority can be summed up to this; Individually you are a minority, collectively we are the majority. The ethos which was birthed in 2018, began in 1994 the year I was born. But this idea was sparked by the actions of countless of individuals who have come before me and whom will continue to push the envelope of progress to create change over time.
For some, your mind may initially think – “am I minority?” Maybe you feel you cannot see yourself as a part of it, but we are at the cusp of building a greater community. It is possible to be a part of the minority, even if you aren’t a minority by the literal definition. You can still be an integral part of forming the majority.. our community. To the one’s who see it – I appreciate you and we all understand how important we all are, individually. We are important to not only ourselves but to each and every one of us together, as a majority.
To quell the initial point above though for one, if you aren't a “minority” in the United States, you are likely a “minority” on other continents. MDM is already officially global with having shipped to Australia, Denmark, & the U.K. It is not solely about the melanin in ones skin though. On its face, it is – being a “minority” in the 21st century is something our fellow human beings from just a few decades prior would feel unrecognizable in – Progress through human history, the minority was rarely in a position of power. But now, adding the simple phrase “Modern Day”, completely transforms the meaning.
Nonetheless – this is about the power of the majority. For whatever issue you believe in, through dialogue and truth you will be able to convince others, as every movement has started from a smaller group coming together based upon the formation of an idea. A matter, whether it be civil rights or women’s suffrage or voting rights, rights for the environment, or for the conversation of animals. Whatever it may be. You may be the minority voice, for now – all with the goal of bringing the majority towards your cause or side.
What Modern Day Minority means to you can be different to what it may mean to me.
But, to start 2021, our take at Modern Day Minority is All lives cant matter until Black Lives Matter. That's why in 2020 we donated 10% of all proceeds to the 'Know Your Rights Camp'. Beginning in 2021, 10% of proceeds are being donated to 'Feeding America'.
Yours Truly,
